Deutschland Erwache "Germany, ewake!", came to be one of the most influential and powerful propaganda slogans of the German Nazi Party, used on its paramilitary units' standards, and popularized by Hitler for his entire political campaign throughout the 1920s and escpecially leading up to the 1933 election.

The phrase was taken from the Nazi song Sturmlied ("Storm Song" or "Assault Song") written by National Socialist poet Dietrich Eckart 1920 and the de facto anthem of the SA (Sturmabteilung) until it was gradually supplanted by the Horst-Wessel-Lied. 

As symbols of the new Germany, the four first "DEUTSCHLAND ERWACHE" standards ("Nürnberg", "Landshut", "München" and "München II") were introduced on a party rally held outside Munich in January 1923. The slogan was used on banners of both SA and SS units, as well as by the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK) and the Ordnungspolizei.
